There, I said it.
The last 24 hours or so in cricket has been bigger than Samit Patel’s lunch plate.
We have seen the start of the South Africa v Australia Test series, the IPL Auction and leaked details of the Mudgal Report.
The what?
The Mudgal Report.
Yep. After watching the farce of Srinivasan, President of the BCCI, appoint Ravi Shastri as a “investigator” with all the skills of Inspector Clouseau to look into IPL corruption involving his own son-in-law, the Supreme Court has acted
They appointed ex Judge Mudgal to take a serious look, and he has now provided his report to the court
The full text can be found here
What does it say?
Well, basically it says that Srinivasan is conflicted, if not corrupted. It also says that CSK is in the same boat. The captain of CSK is MS Dhoni. He also happens to be a Vice President of India Cements, which is owned by Srinivasan. Oh yeah, India Cements owns CSK also.
Conflict of interest? Even Aleem Dar can see it.
However, the most damning part of the report is that a bookie has named 6 indian players as having been involved in match fixing. These names have been placed in an envelope and given to the Court. However, Dhoni’s name has leaked as one of the 6.
When the NZ press tried to ask Dhoni about the allegations today, the BCCI shut the press conference down.
What do the independent Indian press think about that? Watch this.
So we have no acknowledgement of the accusation from Dhoni, nor do we have a defense or even a statement of innocence.
This stinks worse than Jesse Ryder’s socks.
Remember when some unlucky Pakistani cricketers in Butt, Amir and Asif were caught match fixing? The BCCI’s mouthpieces were on the front foot calling for the PCB to be banned from international matches.Where is this BCCI apparatchik machine now?
Nowhere.
MS DhidntDoIt needs to stand aside…NOW
Although unlikely, he may be innocent. But until he is convicted, he needs to go away. The game’s credibility is more important than any false sense of entitlement that he and Srinivasan believe they have. We, the cricketing community, are either serious about this stuff, or we accept that the IPL is just the cricketing version of the WWE.
That’s OK too. But if it is Vince McMahon’s toy, then tell us
MS Dhoni stinks. The IPL stinks. CSK stinks. Srinivasan stinks…and not just because he is an overweight dribbling slob
Are you just as angry as I am? Let me know your thoughts and leave a comment
Lol hilarious article. Nice sharp writing. And I am from India. I agree this needs to be investigated and Dhoni should atleast make a statement.
He can’t ignore it. It won’t go away
Cricket is a team game where performance is the name of the game. But in present day cricket we witness Cricket as a money spinner and the performance does not have any value in Indian cricket; that was evident from the consecutive defeats in overseas tours.
Dennis – you are a loser. I have read tweets and blogs from you attacking Dhoni. You are just jealous that India has Dhoni. Since you write on a public forum, you should have at least that much integrity to have some concrete proof before declaring someone line Dhoni a cheat. But you are quite clearly pursuing a different agenda. You are a disgrace to journalism. You stink!!
I haven’t accused him of anything other than not standing aside while an investigation happens. I just worded it well
I really dont think how it should work. Unless proven guilty, you can’t punish anyone. Sitting aside pretty much means an end to the already ending career. He has been accused by a bookie, that too indirectly. Someone else told him that he has spoken to MS. Really? On that account, you are going to sit him out. Seriously, I get it that you hate India and you hate his guts, and you do, and you know that. I follow everything thats written about Indian Cricket, and thats how i know it. I am glad I am getting a forum to debate with you.
So why is Chris Cairns sitting it out then?
Is that your defense? I dont know why is Chris Cairns sitting out – it could be because of 10000 different reasons. Tomorrow if i accuse of murder, are you saying you should be imprisoned?
Also, can you get me any proof on Harsha Bhogle demanding banning of PCB? And I must say you are funny at times when you write, but its written in very bad taste. Too personal.
I said he should stand down until we have a result.
You should have written this piece in Hindi for ‘some’ people to understand easily!
Haha
Son, you are telling me English is your mothertongue? Even if it is, I can beat ur sorry ass at it.
Dhoni and everybody related to CSK who were asked about Meiyappan have lied. Knowing BCCI, you would expect all their office-bearers to be filthy liars anyway. We have very different expectations from our sportsmen. Dhoni has fallen short, and miserably. He should resign simply because according to phone calls tapped by the police, CSK vs RR was fixed in 2013. How a team’s batting total can be fixed without the captain’s knowledge is unexplainable. That’s the reason Dhoni should resign.
Oh, and I’ve one more reason why he should resign. He’s the worst Test captain India’s had in the at least the last 15 years.
Thanks for commenting. I sense you are frustrated 🙂
No problem :). Yes, I am. And I also figured I could say what I want on this subject without being accused of being jealous :P.
Thank god no one cares for your opinion. A side question – are you a bong?
No I am not. Not sure how it matters where I come from, but I am very much from Dhoni’s home state.
And whether anyone cares about it is also irrelevant to the correctness of my argument. So I’m fine with that :).
I dont think Supreme court has passed the verdict that the match was fixed. But obviously some of us are ready to jump the gun and pass our own verdicts. I am sure you have access to those tapes since you have taken the responsibility of moral policing. Anyway people like you and dennis can cry all their lives, and Dhoni will continue to bat and lead us to championships. Dennis is not an Indian, so quite obviously he is jealous of MS and what India has achieved. All his tweets and blogs reek of jealousy. And then there are people like you. Sad
Why would I be jealous of someone like Dhoni who doesn’t know when to step down? Like Srini, he has no moral compass. The Supreme Court called it “nauseating” that Srini hadn’t stood aside. Same goes for Dhoni
A little more thought into why the SC thought it was “nauseating” will give you the answer. As everybody has repeatedly said, nobody’s accusing Dhoni yet. But the whole thing needs to be explained. In matters that become as grave as this, at some point, good corporations decide that anybody who can impact the investigations must resign till its done. Srinivasan can impact the whole probe. Dhoni, as captain, can influence teammates. Its a simple case of conflict of interest. For the life of me, I can’t see what’s so difficult to grasp here.
I am not even talking about Srini. I am talking only about MSD. The only thing that he can be blamed for lying to the committee. It’s simple for me. If cops come and ask me about a crime that my best friend has committed, i will prefer to save his ass or stay quiet. Other than that, nothing is proved. so instead of pushing your own agenda, why dont we wait for things to be clearer. The truth is that the Supreme court hasnt said anything about Dhoni. Their exact words were ‘ Have we vilified Dhoni?’I am just trying to understand you statement ‘Dhoni can influence his teammates’ – to do what? to throw a game. For that matter, every captain can do it. So we shouldnt have captains? Lets talk specifics here. Do we have any proof that MSD was involved. Let it be proved first, and then talk.
Dhoni doesnt need to learn from you when to step down. Your whole life revolves around Dhoni bitching, and you shouldnt be passing moral judgement. If Dhoni knows that he has done nothing wrong and he is doing so well as Indian captain why should he step down. why should he listen to some insignificant armchair self proclaimed analyst like you?
He obviously doesn’t listen to me. If he did, he would have stepped aside
If you hadn’t listen to yourself in life, you would have come a long way too.
Dennis, being Indian fan supporter we(many) hate dhoni, agreed hes excellent cricketer we found but at the sam time the partnership with CSK or Indian cements is big hole on him fr sure… he was once a good cric brain who used to mingle well with seniors and juniros and taking idnian crik in right way, noiw look @ him just supporting his chamchas or CSK chamchas and giving long run , brining politics in to crick , thr is a news tht he even asked share in india cements /CSK to continue to be part of CSK team … what the… going on Is he a cricketer or wat… we want him to come out clean or admit every thing get out of cricket ASAP
Rambo dhoni need to cm out clean thr are hell lot of allegations on him and CSK/BCCI /India ce,ments rtying alot to scrub it down… by trying to chang investigatio officers etc… it will be good if dhoni comes out of it (i too pray fr it) but untill thn he shlkdnt b in team get him out of thr fr our good and reputation only ;/….dont take too much frm this …
Correct
Morning Dennis.
The rabbit hole runs deep.
I disagree with the part about Aleem Dar.
Spot on. The multiple conflicts of interest here are so blatant it’s almost admirable, in a way. While it’s too simplistic to suggest anyone accused of spot fixing should be made to stand away from the game until their case has been heard (allegations will then become rife), if solid evidence is produced then it would be in the game’s best interests for the player involved to step down.
But, and this is only a half-rhetorical question: how often do the BCCI, Srinivasan and MS Dhoni have the game’s best interests at heart?
They don’t.
