What a pleasure it was to chat with Australian fast bowling legend Craig McDermott
“Billy the Kid” has one of the finest records in Test cricket
Tests | ODI |
Played 71 | Played 138 |
291 Wickets | 203 Wickets |
Average 28 | Average 24 / Strike Rate 36 |
He reached:
- 100 Test wickets in the same amount of Tests as Murali;
- 150 in the same amount of Tests as Ambrose, Joel Garner and Michael Holding;
- 200 faster than Thommo and Wasim Akram; and
- 250 in 5 fewer Tests than James Anderson (McDermott also has a better average and SR than Anderson…just saying)
We talked about everything including:
- His role at Cricket Australia as assistant coach;
- The 1 run loss to the WI on Australia Day 1993 ;
- Day/Night cricket;
- Mitch Johnson;
- His sons Alister and Ben;
- Why they call him “Billy”;
- His new cricket academy;
- Boof vs Mickey Arthur;
- Dean Jones’ ego;
- His favourite drink; and
- Craig answers two listener questions!
We got the impression quite quickly that he loves fast bowlers trying to knock a batsman’s head off.
We are ok with that!
Craig also elects another worthy entrant into the Muller Award recipients club. He actually played with Scott Muller as a junior!
