Channel Nine have announced that Australian Women’s Captain Meg Lanning will join the commentary box this summer.
Lanning will call in the domestic one-day tournament, the Matador BBQs Cup, next month.
The CEO of Matador BBQ’s, a BBQ manufacturer who makes BBQ’s, stated ‘This is great for our brand. We all know women love to cook.. should cook… what better way to expose our cooking appliances to more women than through Meg Lamington calling the cricket.’
Nine’s Head of Sport, Steve Crawley says ‘We are all for women in the commentary box. We like women. Our viewers like women. In fact, women are now an accepted part of society. Also, we should be able to open up other advertising opportunities. You know, like women’s products and stuff like that.’
Steve went on to say that ‘if all goes well and she behaves, our plan is for the Southern Stars captain to commentate on the men’s Twenty20 international games between Australia and South Africa in November.’
When pressed what ‘if that goes well and she behaves’ means, Steve said ‘.. well, let’s just say that we expect the commentary box to be cleaner and lunch to be of a higher standard.’
Michael Stater said Lanning was the right ‘girl’ at the right time to venture into the commentary box because she ‘….has earned respect through this performance on The Cricket Show. Did you like my cat fighting impersonation towards the end of it. I felt it was very authentic.’
‘She’s a pretty thing isn’t she. Hopefully we can work with Joe the camera man to make sure we show plenty of her. Let’s just hope she looks stunning as always. I hear the producers are digging up more modelling shots as we speak. Gotta look after the boys eh.. haha. Is she single? ‘
For her part, Lanning is unaware what all the fuss is about.
‘They are paying me 25% of Mark Taylor’s wage to be judged to a higher standard. Seems about right.’
